Works For Me: Manual HD Switcher

I decided that I would post a Works for Me Wednesday since I found something that actually works for me. It's a Manual HD Switcher. We didn't get it for the HD part even though we did hook it up and got a better picture. It works for me because it's got 4 inputs for DVD players, VCRs, game consoles, satellite receiver, and more. There are only two inputs on the back of the family room tv. It's a regular 32" projection tv. It was getting to be a real pain having to pull the tv out to unplug and plug in the different items. Now we are able to have all of them plugged into one location all the time. The kids just have to hit the button as to which item they want on - DVD, VCR, satellite box or the Wii. The best part - they can do it on their own!!

Visit We Are THAT Family for more Works For Me Wednesday posts.

Weigh In Wednesday - 2/25/09

I am so disappointed! I really thought that I would see a weight loss this week when I stepped on the scale. Nope! I had a .4 lb weight gain. I know it's not a lot but I worked really hard this week. I did my 30-60 minutes of exercise which was my goal for the week. But I also watched what I ate and didn't over do it. I guess there's always next week...

This week I really focused on my workouts. I did 60 minutes on the treadmill every night except for Monday. Monday was a little busy but I did get 30 minutes of exercise in. This exercise is on top of the crunches on the stability ball, strength training and other activities that burn calories like chasing kids and cleaning the house. My ending totals for the treadmill this week was: 6 hours and 6 minutes, 26.366 miles and 4312 calories burned.

My goal this week is to make sure the 30-60 minutes of exercise is still getting done daily. I'm hoping to have lost 2 lbs by the time I get on the scale next week. I'm going to make sure to document in my food journal every bite - everyday. I'll find the reason that I'm not dropping the pounds!

How are you doing on your weight loss/fitness goals? Did you make a resolution/goal for 2009 to lose weight? What are you doing to lose the weight?

Goal 12/31/09 56.2
2009 Weight Loss-to-date .4

In the meantime, this is what we will be enjoying this week...

2. Easy Baked Manicotti

3. Taco Pie

4. Breakfast - eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy

5. Grilled Chicken Parmesan, green beans, pasta with alfredo sauce, crescent roll

6. Stove Top One-Dish Chicken Bake, Tortellini, Broccoli and Bacon salad

Free Redbox Code for 2/23/09

Rent a free movie from your local Redbox kiosk using code: S39XKT. This code is good for today only. Using the code is very easy. We've been renting them for a couple weeks now...the kids love it. We also used a few of the free codes found at Inside Redbox.

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. On the first screen, select “Rent with Promo”.
  2. You will be prompted to enter the code; enter the code.
  3. Choose your movie.
  4. Swipe your credit card (or debit card).
    1. This is just in case you do not return the movie on time (by 9pm the next day). You will be charged $1 per day up to $25, if the movie isn’t returned.
  5. You will be prompted to enter your zip code and email address.

You can use the code multiple times; however, you need to use a different debit or credit card.

Returning the movie is even easier. You can return the movie to any Redbox. It doesn’t have to be the one you rented it from.

Here are the steps to return a movie:

  1. On the first screen, select “Return a Movie”.
  2. When prompted, slide the movie in the slot.

That’s it!

Snack Time: Quaker Quakes Rice Cakes

Do ever have that need to eat something crunch? You know - like chips? Well, I've found a new way to get my crunchy fix on. It's Quaker Quakes Rice Cakes. I'll admit that I was never a fan of rice cakes (the big cardboard tasting ones) when I was younger and never really gave them another try until recently. I figured with the smaller version they would maybe be a little better. Guess what? They were.

I recently purchased the Ranch flavored. I loved them. They're actually gone. They reminded my of Cool Ranch Doritos, seriously. They are crunchy but tender texture. No cardboard taste either. They are only 2 WW points per serving. Serving size is 10 cakes which was perfect.

If you haven't tried them, I highly recommend giving them a try. Not a fan of Ranch? They have many other flavors: Apple Cinnamon, BBQ, Caramel Corn, Cheddar Cheese, Chocolate, Kettle Corn, Ranch, Nacho Cheese, and Sour Cream & Onion.

I will note that I did try the regular sized ones too. They are "ok". But I did have to look up a few recipes for them. Then they became delicious!!

Snack Time: Fiber One Bars

Here I am with another snack for you - Fiber One Bars. Have you tried them? YUMMY! Cardboard no, Delicious yes... I like them all but my favorite is the Chocolate Mocha. It's a great afternoon pick me up with the hint of mocha - less calories than the mocha I could be drinking. These are so good that even my picky kids like them. They prefer the peanut butter ones.

There's 9 grams of fiber in each one, that's 35% of the daily recommended fiber. I try to make sure I get my daily recommended amount of fiber when I'm trying to lose weight. It helps me feel full sooner and stay full longer.

These bars are chewy with a little bit of "icing" on them. They come in a variety of flavors: Oats & Chocolate, Oats & Apple Streusel, Chocolate Mocha, Oats & Strawberry with Almonds, Oats & Caramel, and Oats & Peanut Butter.

They are only 2 WW points too!
Another easy to take along snack - fits in your purse, diaper bag, or console (just don't keep it in there when it's hot...it'll melt).

Have I made you want to try some? Here's a $1.00 printable coupon to take to the store with you. Nothing like saving money while losing weight...

My Shopping Trip - Week of 2/15/09

I got my shopping trip done first thing this week - Sunday morning! I headed to Meijer. I've had my eyes on a pair of clearance Addidas tennis shoes for a couple weeks. I went in to get them and pick up a few other items. We were in need of bread and eggs.

Meijer

There was a sign in the shoe department for additional 50% off clearance. I went on a search for these shoes. I found the empty box...the shoes were mixed in with the regular priced mens shoes. I probably had the security cameras following as I searched for them. I found them, checked out and then went back for groceries. It was only good through Saturday but since the sign was still hanging I got them for an additional 50% off.

Total OOP: $18.71 -- saved $52.50!

I picked up items from the Meijer Dollar Deals - buy 10 get 11th FREE as well as the eggs and bread that I went in to get. Lysol was cheaper at Meijer than Walgreens so I picked up a few bottles. A bag of my Quaker Rice Cakes are missing from the picture...I was hungry! The cookies would not have been bought had my youngest son not tagged along. Taking him cost me and extra $1.79!

Total OOP: $15.78 -- saved $30.75

I also saved on my prescriptions. I don't have pictures. I was given a prescription for Motrin 600mg and Vicodin when I had my tooth pulled. I didn't have to have them filled because I kept my prescription from August when I had my other wisdom tooth pulled. So, it was NOTHING OOP on the prescriptions. I think I only took one last time and one this time and the previous prescription was written for 16.

Weigh In Wednesday - 2/18/09

I was able to drop the 1.4 lbs that I put on last week but that's it.

When I look back over the month and a half that I've been on this weight loss journey, I compare it to other years that I dieted. I wonder what's going on - why can't I get this weight off. What am I not doing now that I did back then? The year that we went to the spring Bristol race (end of March) I was down 32 lbs (in 3 months). I was close to my goal weight. At the rate that I'm going, I'll be just the opposite - gain 32 lbs in 3 months. What I am not doing is exercising which is the key to weight loss. With that said, I have decided to "schedule" my workouts. If I find extra time outside my daily routine to squeeze a few minutes of exercise, then I will do that too but I will be scheduling at least 30 - 60 minutes a day.

While I was recovering from my tooth being pulled, I decided to pull out some old pictures thinking it would help me get on the right track to getting this weight off. It's definitely helped me to think about what I'm eating because I don't want to go back to where I was before kids. I'd like to get where I was before son #2.

Here's the pics I found (yes, they've been cropped).

1 year before kids (1998)

1 1/2 years after son #1 (2001)

Before son #2 (2003)

The first picture was at my highest weight 235 lbs then the last pictures is the smallest I had been (probably since Jr. High) at 120 lbs.

My goal this week is to make sure the 30-60 minutes of exercise gets done daily. I'd like to drop 2 lbs but my focus this week is going to more on getting the exercise in each day. I will continue to watch my calories, portion control and sweets.

How are you doing on your weight loss/fitness goals? Did you make a resolution/goal for 2009 to lose weight? What are you doing to lose the weight?

Talk About Tuesday: My Window Needs Treatments

I haven't participated in Talk About Tuesday in a while but I need some assistance. I have a window that really needs a window treatment of some sort. I don't know what kind of window treatment. My fiance' doesn't want to get rid of the blinds. Working around them is kind of hard though. I tried thermal window panels that were floor length that we could open and close. They worked in the sense that they covered the metal plates at the top of the blinds but they kept getting stuck on the blinds and were bulky behind the couch.

Now I'm asking the readers - what kind of window treatments would you recommend? The only requirement that I have is that it covers the metal rods and top of the blinds. They don't have to be able to open and closes...the blinds take care of that problem.
