Weight Watcher Weigh In -5/30/2009

This week was a great weigh in. I weighed in this week at Weight Watchers with a 5.6 pound weight loss. I finally hit the 20 pound goal!! I am considering changing my Wednesday weigh in to Saturday that way it's all on the same day.

This week we were on the subject of motivation. This is the time of year that many people lose motivation in their weight loss journey. I've noticed that I was close to losing motivation, as I had talked about last week. I was only losing .2 pounds even though I was working hard to lose the weight. It was a little frustrating but did pay off as my Wednesday leader had said. I think there are times that we will see a pretty good weight loss and think "Oh I didn't even watch what I ate last week. I'll do it this week and I have nothing to worry about." Wrong! You'll be back in the gaining game. One way to stay motivated is to set realistic goals - maybe it's getting into a pair of shorts that you've had for a while, 5 pounds, working out 2 times a week or walking every night after dinner. You are more likely to stick with your plan if you set attainable goals. If you say "I'd like to go from a size 14 to a size 6", more than likely your weight loss journey is going to end before you reach that goal size.

Some of the goals that I have set are getting back into a few old outfits. I have them lined up in my closet from biggest to smallest (not that it's really my goal to get as small as I was). I want to run a 5K this year so I've set small running goal (hit my 2 mile goal on Wednesday BTW). I do base most of my other goals on my weight but in the end it will be how I look and feel that determine where I stop on the scale. I may say I want to be 120 pounds but get to 135 and be comfortable. We'll see as my weight loss journey continues.

My next mini goal is 30 pounds. I'd like to lose it by June 13, 2009. It will be the 30 month mark for Weight Watchers. The last time I followed Weight Watchers I had lost 30 pounds in 3 months too. I'll be right on the same path as I was last time; however, this time I won't be drifting off the path.

How do you stay motivated? What kind of goals have you set for yourself?

Weigh In Wednesday - 5/27/09

A great week for me! This week I lost 3.4 pounds on my scale. My WW weight loss will not be posted until Saturday/Sunday now since I'm at work during the time of my "old" meeting. I'm hoping it turns out as good, if not better!

This past week I was very busy. I don't think I sat still for more than 15 minutes at a time (as you can tell from my lack of blog posts). I completed a lot of work that needed done around the house which eliminated all that boredom eating. I wasn't as great on the working out since I was too busy with other projects. However, there were two nights that I ran for a mile straight. For those that know me, know that this is a great accomplishment for me. I am NOT a runner and NEVER have been...but I've always wanted to be and I'm making my way closer to my goal of a 5K.

My eating was great this week. We even went out to Outback for my birthday. Of course, I passed on the Alice Springs Chicken (15-16 points) but did enjoy some Blooming Onion. I can make my version of the Alice Springs Chicken for lower points so that's why I passed on it. For our cookout this past weekend, I had Fat Free Ball Park Franks (1 point) on a Lite hot dog bun (1 point) instead of a cheeseburger which saved me quite a bit of points.

My goal this week is to try to squeeze a workout in everyday. I don't know how this will work yet but I will figure it out this week. I'd like to lose 2 pounds too.

How did you do this week? What challenges are you facing? Did you try anything new this week?

Menu Plan Monday - 5/26/095

With returning to work, I am no longer planning breakfast and dinner menus. The kids will have quick and easy options available...then eat whatever is served at school or sitter's house. This is my first week back so I'm making this week's menu easy. We have a date night planned for Saturday so that will be a much needed break from that hassles of this week.

Here's my menu plan:

1. Stuffed Peppers
2. Johnsonville Brats, macaroni salad, potato salad

3. Homemade Pizza
4. Italian Bake (Whole wheat penne pasta, pasta sauce, sweet Italian Turkey Sausage, Low Fat Mozzarella cheese)

Weigh In Wednesday - 5/20/09

Another low week. I lost .2 pounds on my scale and WW. The low weight loss has happened two weeks in a row so I questioned it. There wasn't anything that should have caused it to only be .2 pounds this week. I talked to my WW leader. She said that since I am more active than I was in previous weeks my body is probably building muscle and losing inches. In a few weeks, I should start seeing the results...she wants me to give it to more weeks. So, we'll see. Since I will be returning to work on Tuesday, I will be weighing in on Wednesday at home and Saturday at WW. I will post twice a week in regards to my weight loss.

My energy levels have sky rocketed! I have been so active this past week. I have been walking/running on the treadmill. I actually ran my first full mile and a half Monday night. If you've been around here long, you know I am NOT a runner and never was so this is a BIG step for me. I've done my strength training three times this week. I've also been very active around the house (hours of sitting are few and far between). I've been trying to get a lot of things done before returning to work so I have literally spent all day working on the yard and/or pool. Both are done now!

On Tuesday, I picked up my EA Sports Active Personal Trainer for Wii. I gave it a try yesterday morning. It seems to be a good workout. I'm having trouble with the resistance band though. No matter how many times I fold it under my foot it just doesn't seem like it offers enough resistance. I have a few bands that I've been working with so I'm going to swap it out and see how that works.

My eating is still really good. It has improved majorly since the first few months of the year. I've even been eating all my daily recommended items and more filling foods. I've even found that my sweet tooth has really decreased. It's not as sweet as what it used to be. However, I think I have tamed this with feeding it everyday with a WW ice cream or another low point dessert. So, I treat myself everyday as long as I have 2 points left at the end of the day. I think this has helped.

The thing that I will be focusing on this week is and next is eating in moderation and being prepared when arriving at the cookouts, graduation and birthday parties that we have planned for the next two weekends. It all kicks off tomorrow with my birthday. I don't really see any of them being a problem. I will have a filling salad before heading out to a few of them though. I will definitely be taking my cooler of water along too.

My goal this week is to keep up with my workouts. With returning to work, this will be a tough one. By the time I return home from work, it will be time to head to baseball games. The other goal is continuing with my healthy eating. I currently eat on a schedule. Going back to work will mess with schedule. It will take a couple days to get a schedule worked out but I hope to take it within the first couple. I'm not putting a weight loss goal out there this week since I have enough challenges ahead of me this week.

How did you do this week? What challenges are you facing? Did you try anything new this week?

It's Official!

After being out of work for 9.5 months, I will be returning to work. I have mixed emotions about the whole thing. I will be returning to work with full benefits (something I have been without since the beginning of the year), 401K, pension, life insurance and all the perks that come with company that I work for. I will get to be with my old friends or at least those that are still there. I enjoy working and enjoy the money even more. However, I would have really liked to spend the summer with my kids - not stick my kids in daycare for the summer.

Believe it or not, unemployment wasn't that bad even with it being more than 50% less than my paychecks were. The thing is...it wasn't something that would have lasted as long as I needed it to - say about 20 more years!

One problem that I have already ran into is schedule issues. Yes, schedules. By the time I make it home from work, I will have to get the kids changed and right out the door to baseball at least through mid-June. I'm not sure what dinner will be or if we will even have time to eat. My youngest son's games only last an hour but the older one has two hour games/practices. Then shortly after baseball is over we go right into 5 nights of 2 hour football practices. We'll get it worked out though. It will just rough for the first couple of months.

Once I return to work, I'm not sure how often I will be able to update my blog. I will at least continue with my weight loss journey which was my main reason for starting the blog anyways. However, my goal is to keep up with all the usual posts as well.

Weigh In Wednesday - 5/13/09

This week wasn't as good as week's past. I lost 0.4 pounds on my scale and 0.2 pounds at WW. I'll take it though. I know exactly what caused such a small weight loss and it's something that I can control. I'll be working this week to increase my weight loss and won't have that same issue to work with.

I really don't know what's gotten into me. My workouts have been pretty lame. I was working out with some Jillian Michaels DVDs and have completely lost interest in them. I get bored within 5 minutes of starting any of them. I don't have that problem at aerobics classes so I need to start adding them back into my schedule (yeah, sounds easier than it's going to be).

My eating this week was really good. As usual, I got all my veggies and fruit in each day. I did try the Boca Burgers this week. I must say - they are not my type of food. They were disgusting!! Good thing they were only $1. I was under in points on two days - I just wasn't hungry. But there was one day that I had to dive into the weekly allowance points...that's the day that had played a part in my small weight loss.

One thing that I need to focus on is eating regularly on those days that I'm not hungry. It can really take a toll on your metabolism if you skip meals or go long periods of time without eating. One way to look at your metabolism is like a fireplace. You wouldn't throw all your wood in at once to have a big flame and then let it die off. You would throw a little in at a time to keep the fire fueled. This is what you need to keep your metabolism going...feed it regularly and don't skip meals eating two meals in one.

My goal this week is to workout everyday. Yep, everyday. I'm really going to be focused on losing the 2 pounds I need to get me to my goal #3 of 20 pounds. I've got to find a new workout schedule over the next week as well. I've adjusted our schedule again with some changes that are about to take place around here (stay tuned for details). It will drastically reduce the amount of time I have available to workout.

How did you do this week? What challenges are you facing? Did you try anything new this week?

Free Redbox Code for 5/11/09

Changes to free Redbox code Monday are coming... The promotion was to end today. However, they've decided to extend it through August. Beginning June 1, they will be sending out a monthly code that will be good for every Monday in that month. Until then, this will be the last weekly code.

Rent a free movie from your local Redbox kiosk using code: 6A43JK.
This code is good for today only. Using the code is very easy. We've been renting them for a couple weeks now...the kids love it. We also used a few of the free codes found at Inside Redbox.

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. On the first screen, select “Rent with Promo”.
  2. You will be prompted to enter the code; enter the code.
  3. Choose your movie.
  4. Swipe your credit card (or debit card).
    1. This is just in case you do not return the movie on time (by 9pm the next day). You will be charged $1 per day up to $25, if the movie isn’t returned.
  5. You will be prompted to enter your zip code and email address.

You can use the code multiple times; however, you need to use a different debit or credit card.

Returning the movie is even easier. You can return the movie to any Redbox. It doesn’t have to be the one you rented it from.

Here are the steps to return a movie:

  1. On the first screen, select “Return a Movie”.
  2. When prompted, slide the movie in the slot.

That’s it!

Menu Plan Monday - 5/11/09

I took a week off from menu planning to see how it would go. I was pleasantly surprised. We ate in every night except the weekend which I would have planned for anyways. I didn't stress over what to have since we really had many options. The biggest problem that I am running into is baseball games/practices. We normally eat between 6:30 - 7:00pm. With baseball 4-5 nights a week, it's hard to fit dinner in before and it's so late after that nobody's really hungry. I think that's why skipping a week of menu planning went so well. I wasn't wasting my time preparing a meal that either not going to get eaten or would sit for 2 hours until we returned from baseball.

Here's my menu plan:

Breakfast Options:
Waffles
French Toast
Omelet/Scrambled Eggs, toast
Cereal
Fruit

Lunch Options:
Soup/Grilled Cheese
Bologna Sandwich, salad
Bagel Bites
Salad, Fruit

Dinner:
1. Zesty Slow Cooker Chicken Barbecue, Veggies of some sort
2. Swedish Meatballs and Egg Noodles, salad

3. Cabbage Rolls
4. Cheeseburgers and/or turkey sausage. cole slaw, french fries
5. Pork Chops with Cider Gravy, Mashed Sweet Potatoes, Sauteed Apples and Onions

Snack Time: Sandwich Thins

A few weeks ago while I was out picking up our weekly bread supply I ran across Arnold Select Sandwich Thins. I had never seem them before but when I picked them up I had to buy them. They are big, soft, flat buns...and 100% whole grain. If you are following Weight Watchers, they are only 1 point! Nutritional information… 100 calories, 1g of fat, 6g of fiber, 2 g of sugar, 5g of protein per bun! No high fructose corn syrup, 0 trans fat, low cholesterol and excellent source of fiber!!

I have used these for everything...sandwiches, burgers, pizzas, or even in place of my bagel. They are fabulous! They are a bit pricier ($2.59) than regular buns but they're a much healthier alternative. I have found them at Cub Foods, Kroger and WalMart. At two of the three stores, they were located on the bottom shelf in the bread aisle. This week Kroger had them on a special display.
They come in Whole Grain, Multi Grain, and Seedless Rye. You get 8 to a pack.

Have you tried them yet? If so, what do you think?

Weigh In Wednesday - 5/6/09

Here it is again...another weight loss post! I'm down 1.6 pounds on my scale and 2.2 pounds on the WW scale. It was definitely more than I had expected. I was feeling like I had gained about 3 pounds this past week.

I'd have to admit that my workout this week weren't the greatest. I ran here and there. If I only had 15 minutes, I ran for 15 minutes on the treadmill. Whatever time I could dedicate to working out, I did even if it was only 5-10 minutes. I did a lot of walking on Saturday then on Sunday I worked in my fiance's mother's yard and ours. I finished our yard on Monday. I really didn't do much sitting around this past week.

As far as eating, I'm finding that I'm eating a lot of fruits and vegetables. It seems to happen this time of year. My favorite food this week was my WW bagel topped with WW cream cheese, Tastefully Simple Green Tea Peppercorn (sprinkled on) and a slice of tomato...yummy! Since they lowered the price of the Tim Horton's small Iced Cappuccinos, I think I've been having one EVERY day. Bad habit that I need to kick.

One topic that I've really been trying to work on is - "When you turn the negatives into positives, you will see positive results." I'm one to say, "Yeah, I've lost 17.8 pounds at Weight Watchers BUT I have a lot more to go." Or "I already blew it for the day, I'll start back on my diet tomorrow." I think I'm on the right thinking path now.

My goal this week is to workout everyday. Yep, everyday. I've been running, walking and strength training but feel that I need to do a little more. I'd really like to lose 2.2 pounds this week to hit my goal #3 of 20 pounds and be 40 pounds away from my weight loss goal for the year. My weight loss goal for the year may change as I near the goal. I'm finding that my weight may not be the ultimate determination of my goal. My real goal is to be toned and trimmed - not read skinny.

How did you do this week? What challenges are you facing? Did you try anything new this week?

Blogroll - Where have you gone?!?

I just noticed that my blogroll is missing from my sidebar. I'm not sure how or when it was removed but I'll get it back up as soon as I can. I have some more blogs to add to it as well.
