Weight In: Loss But Not Much More

After an ice storm and some snow and some more snow, I am back with the past week’s weight loss total. It is 1.6! I couldn’t believe it. I’m going to be totally honest with you here. After being coped up in the house for what seemed to be weeks (really only 1 day), I made some bad choices - - aka Peanut M&M’s and Coca-Cola. I’m not even a soda drinker!

I realized what I had done and quickly changed my ways – no more candy and Coca-Cola…or any soda for that matter. I even had control of my eating at our Super Bowl party. Our parties never have a lot of healthy food. But really, I didn’t look at it as a dinner party or eat-fest. I spent more time watching the game and socializing with friends. When I did make my way out to the kitchen, I ate more veggies than anything else. I had the best whole wheat veggie wrap too. I’ll share the recipe if and when I get it.

Now as far as exercise, it was nearly non-existent this week. I did pick up a few workout DVDs from the library. I gave each of them a quick try and that was it. I know that working out is going to be my turning point. It’s getting there that’s the hard part. My goal is to do at least 30 minutes of exercise 4 days this week.

I'm back!

If you haven’t noticed, I took a much needed hiatus from blogging. I still lurked around visited my favorite blogs (which reminds me - I need to update on my blogroll). I did comment a time or two on a few of them.

It really wasn’t my plan to be away from blogging for so long – about 5 months. We started 6 day football practice then school started and there were 4 days of practice and 1 game day. We dealt with football practices and games until the first week of November. We quickly moved into basketball practices. Winter is usually our off season for sports. Not this year! As a matter of fact, he plays on a recreational and select basketball team. So, we are remaining busy…as we head away from basketball (about a month left until tournaments) and head towards baseball. Then there were the holidays which are normally busy and stressful. As if I’m not busy enough, our football board is in full swing preparing for the fall football season – yes, it will be here before you know it.

Wondering how I’ve been doing on my weight loss goals? Well… I’m back to my original weight before I joined Weight Watchers in March ’09. I’m not happy about it either. It’s my fault and I’m taking full responsibility for it. Over the past year or so, I’ve been putting everyone else first and I’ve been unmotivated, irritable and frustrated, etc. I’m stepping up and putting myself first now. I’m managing my stress a little better. But best of all, I’ve got a plan! I will be scheduling my workout time just as the basketball, baseball and football coaches schedule practices and games.

Since exercise seems to be my biggest problem, I will be focusing on that first. I will be going back to the Couch to 5K program as one of my 2011 goals is to run at least 3 5Ks this year. I’ve also been reading Tony Horton’s book. In his book, he outlines a workout for your fitness level. It’s a six days a week workout for approximately 20 minutes. I’m going to follow that as well.
My eating habits haven’t really changed since I stopped dieting. I got through the holidays without eating pounds of peanut butter (my fave), buckeyes and cookies. As a matter of fact, I don’t recall having much of any of them. Compared to where I was a year ago, I’m probably eating better. I eat more vegetables and fruit than I was. Depending on the dinner, I will eat double vegetables and leave the meat off my plate.

I’ve been at my new plan for 1 week now and have lost 3.2 pounds! I didn’t exercise as much as I had planned because I got hit with strep throat. I slept instead of working out. I’ve got my prescription so hopefully I will start feeling better in the next couples and get back to my workouts.

I will be back to report my progress - hopefully weekly.

And the winner is...

(This is what happened to me yesterday.)

Do you register/play radio station contests? I do. I’m usually able to get in on some free tickets. Yeah, tickets…never money and nothing overly exciting. My last win was in back in October. I won tickets to a Mike Posner concert. No, I didn’t attend the concert…I gave the tickets away but I was excited that I won.

The local radio station is giving away spa packages. I thought it would be perfect if I won. I mean, who wouldn’t want a spa day?!? Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would win…even though I listen almost every time they call out a name. This morning I was away from my desk and came back just as they were calling out the name. It was mine!!! I was so excited, nervous, anxious… I picked up the phone to call and I couldn’t remember the number. I had to look it up online. I couldn’t believe it – I won something other than concert tickets.

So...the lady at the radio station answered in a very calm voice.

I said, “I just heard my name for the spa days contest.”

Lady – “What’s your name?”

Me – I told her my name.

Lady – “What’s your address?”

Me – I told her my address

I was thinking come on…I only have a couple minutes to get in to receive the prize. HURRY UP! Then she put me on hold. Hold that seemed like forever…but I was being connected to the morning show. YIPPIE!

They asked me my name and then went in to telling me about the package. I was still in shock…I was completely speechless. The morning show put me on hold after they were done taking the call. After about a minute, one of the morning show hosts came on the line to collect more personal information. Since there is a chance of winning a cruise, I had to provide my phone number so they can call me if I win. Fingers crossed but it will be highly unlikely (refer to paragraph #1).

Now I just have to find time in my busy schedule to make a trip to the radio station to pick up my prize (within the next 10 days) then book my spa day. I can't wait!
