Recipe: Baked Ziti

This is recipe that you could make "your own". If you don't like ground beef or sausage, use pepperoni, ground chicken or ground turkey. You could also add some garlic to make a little more Italian...I don't like garlic so it's not in my recipe.

  • ½ lb lean ground beef
  • ½ lb lean ground sausage
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 (32 oz) jar pasta sauce
  • 1 tsp dried oregano leaves
  • 1 (16 oz) package ziti pasta, cooked and drained
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated parmesan cheese

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a large skillet, cook ground beef, oregano and onions over medium-high heat until beef is browned.
  3. Reduce heat. Add 1 cup of sauce and cooked ziti.
  4. Spoon ½ of the ziti mixture into a 9x13 baking dish. Sprinkle with 1 ½ cups mozzarella cheese and ½ cup Parmesan cheese. Top with 2 cups sauce, then remaining ziti mixture and remaining sauce.
  5. Cover and bake 20 minutes.
  6. Sprinkle with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  7. Put back in oven to bake uncovered for 10 minutes. You could also put it under the broiler, if you like it a little brown (my fiancé prefers it under the broiler).
